I first came to know about Jason Mraz through a friend of mine who fell for a girl who he worked with and was totally out of his leage. They were this song and he wasn't even shy about saying so, posted this song on his myspace and even went to her apartment and sang it to her LOL. Hes a skinny white boy from a conservative background and she was a curvy popular black girl who on a good day might remember his name, but he wouldn't have any of it. He totally pursued her, and let her know what she'd be missing out on.
If I didn't know this song was written years before, I'd swear Jason knew my friend and his quest. Oh and he won her too.they were together for awhile.:D.
General CommentGeek in the Pink is wordplay - yeah, it can mean 'I'm wearing a pink shirt' but it doesn't - it's the same 'Pink' Aerosmith went on about at least a decade ago (vagina). Likewise, 'It's laundry day!' Could mean literally that he's doing laundry and he made everything pink. Haven't you all heard the phrase 'airing your dirty laundry' though? That's what he's really saying - that he's about to spend a song talking about his issues with his girl.
I love how Mraz plays on words and phrases and how almost every song he has includes some sort of innuendo. General CommentWhile this song is certainly 'about' a multitude of things (laundry washing, acceptance, sexuality, etc) It's based on a time when he was involved in an impromptu recording session in Miami with beatmaker Scott Storch. 'I showed up at the studio and we don't even know what we're gonna do,' Mraz recalled. 'Then Scott came up with this crazy loop and the room just became filled with MCs that just started flowing. And here I am, this skinny little white kid wearing this pink polo shirt, just feeling totally awkward.
I probably looked like the biggest nerd in there.'
