It's official.this is the WORST movie EVER made. IMDb only have a score of 1-10 to give.i gave this movie a 1.and it's a complement. It actually would have been a -10 if the score was availible. I am not saying the Olsen twins are bad actors. I have seen to few movies of them.and hey.they where GREAT at 'full house'. But this movie contains so much bad actors, so bad story, so bad music that you will regret the whole life that you'd actually spent 1 hour and 22 minutes on this movie. Don't ever rent it, Don't ever lend it, Don't ever see it.this is CRAP.
Her first being 'What Gets Me Hot' followed by 'Those Young Girls', both made in the first half of 1984. Lords' youthful appearance and enthusiastic sexual performances propelled her to stardom and she is considered by many to be one of the first porn queens. Kristina Pimenova has been dubbed the ‘most beautiful girl in the world,’ but some people worry the 9-year-old is too young to be a supermodel.
The words isn't enough.i can't believe Warner Brothers distributed this crap.the ones behind this movie should not be alowed to EVER work in the movie business again. If they do.this is a crime!
Go see a real movie instead! 'New York Minute' is a film that is clearly targeted for young girls. That said, the film, as directed by Dennie Gordon, based on a screen play by Emily Fox, is a rip off on other formula movies that have, at least, been somehow more amusing than this one that tries to cash on the famous, or infamous, according to what your take is, of the Olsen twins.
These young women grew up in front of all Americans in their television show. Now, having grown up, they have moved, for real, to New York, in order to pursue their college education.
In the process, both these girls have been the fodder for tabloid news and their wealth have bought them all kinds of material comforts in the Big Apple, including an apartment worth millions. As far as being actresses, let the viewer come to his/her own conclusions.
In the film, they are seen being themselves, more than being part of the movie. The only casualty seems to be Eugene Levy, who as the truant inspector, is made to be the bad guy of the story. Give a copy of this film to young girls you must give a present, as they will appreciate the gift.
New York Minute is almost exactly what I would have expected from Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen. Although it was their first major motion picture release, I could not bring myself to believe it would be anything more than their past endeavors only with a higher budget. Turns out I was right.
If you go into this movie expecting a Mary-Kate & Ashley movie, then you will only be minimally disappointed. It was definitely targeted for young teenage girls.
If you expected something else, then you may be challenged mentally and I urge you to seek professional help. You should not blame anyone but yourself if this was not what you expected.
However, if you knew what you were getting yourself into, you would most likely still be disappointed. Some of their earlier movies were more entertaining, even though those, too, were geared towards kids. I found this movie boring and hard to watch all the way through.
I somehow managed, but it was a little painful. Eugene Levy may have been the brightest part of New York Minute, as truant officer Max Lomax. The twins themselves were not bad either but their acting suffers from bad writing. I liked Mary-Kate's character of Roxy Ryan, a Ferris Beuller type wannabe.
As a whole, I rated this movie 6 out of 10. I would not recommend it unless you are of the biggest Olsen Twin fans out there. I don't care what anyone has said negatively about this movie but it was a very wholesome family movie. My two daughters and I watched it and thought parts of it were hilarious. It reminded me of one of my old time favorites, 'Ferris Buellers Day Off.'
I don't understand how anyone can give it such a low rating. The movie never was boring and if you thought parts were far fetched, 'it is only a movie. Not real life.' People should lighten up and sit back and relax and enjoy a good film with their children more often. I thought everyone involved did a great job and I would watch it again. Maybe I am just an immature 42 year old but I was cracking up at parts, and for someone my age that is unusual for a kids film. Let me start out by saying, I like the I like the Olsen twins - smart, cute girls, but this movie blew.
They should stick with the straight to video flicks that have made them so rich and famous. The bling scene was so unbelievably stupid, it was hard to comprehend that they weren't retching as they were filming it. Where are these merchants that give away free service, clothes etc.??? The unnecessary wrap up at the end where the guys end up going to London.the butchering of David Bowie's song.the lame dancing.the list of reasons why this movie sucked is absolutely endless. Poor Reynaldo.
OK about a month ago, the cable company was advertising the crap out NYM and to my surprise, it was a funny movie. What was more amazing the Olsen sisters aren't bad actors. NYM minute wouldn't be the type of movie I would pay $12.00 at the cinema (besides the shame factor), however if you do take the time to watch it, you might be amazed. I know there are going to be a lot people asking me why do I like this movie? The answer is simple it is easy to follow and it's down right hilarious.
Sure NYM wouldn't last a New York Second during the theatrical release, but it is suitable for a quiet night at home. New York Minute may not be in the same category as House of Sand and Fog or Donnie Darko, but lets not forget it is a comedy. Well what can you expect from 2 teenagers who have obviously never participated in 'serious' acting and whose credits have been a series of obnoxious TV movies which barely received any good ratings?
Well you can expect the worst and hope for the best. This movie was definitely NOT GOOD - but in comparison to all the Olsen twin's movie's, this stands out. The same typical Olsen sequences of twins with different personalities is well captured even in this movie- and unfortunately i believe that this is the limit. Even before watching this movie, the fact that earning the title of the lowest box office grossing for a film opening in over 3000 theaters, basically leashes the impending movie experience. So well that just reveals that the Olsen twins should just be participators of the modeling industry - as for their contribution to the film industry- well they are cute and they not impressive at all, so let them not contribute.please.
I believe if they should continue acting - get rid of the twin act and surprise people with something new. As for 'New york minute' you can watch it if you just wanna see the twins shake their behinds - but besides - SERIOUSLY.DON'T BOTHER!!!! My girlfriend has a thing going for the Olsen twins (no, not that kind of thing), and I decided to go along with it and watch New York minute with her.
An easy to digest, easy to forget, silly and rather stupid little movie. Just what I expected.
The twins are divided into the extremely original barbie-wild girl types who decide in the end they truly love each other. You know, after 90 minutes (oh, if it only lasted 1 minute!) of arguing and stuff.
Everybody's happy in this one, so the girls meet some cute guys and even the bad guys have a certain charm (it's Andy everybody! Man, where have you been?). And when the girls get lost in Harlem they're just gonna get their hair cut.
Only watchable because of Levy and our main man, Mr. Andy Richter. Otherwise: ouch. The Twins are growing up and are doing quite well for them selves.
Lets not forget the pressure teen actors/actresses are under. They have been involved in TV series and movies almost from the day they were born. We all know how much pressure Hollywood can put on these young performers. Overall I give the Olsen Twins a 10. You don't find many movies these days that are clean cut. No sex or violence and no swearing which has to be a first these days.
Lets not forget these girls are still very young and as they make or get into more movies there acting skills will only improve, but still they deserve a lot of credit. I'd like to see them make more movies and keep that clean cut image, which is very hard to find these days.
If you are not a girl under the age of ten, New York Minute will be a head ache inducing waste of 90 minutes of your time. The interchangeable Olsen twins (who cares which is which) star in this rip off of Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Ferris Bueller was likable but these two girls have no personality. Their series of misadventures are not funny. Eugene Levy has a nothing role as a truent officer obsessed with catching the two girls. This character is incredibly stupid, not funny, and very obnoxious.
Then there are non acting guys who fall in love with them. Don't get me started on Andy Richter's embarrassing role. Definitely one of the year's worst movies.
When first started to watch I disliked the acting of the Olson Twins in movies (their series are good and fun). This film has changed that, they are not only fun to watch, but are actually funny as well. The kids will have the most fun out of this film (mine are 9/10/12 years of age). But it's a real treat for the whole family.
Sometime although the movie gets a little weird with plots but nothing serious to harm the film total. If you are an adult don't see or rent this movie it's fun to watch but only when you have kids My 10 is their for only intended to rate is as a kids film. I thought this was a good movie.
Its not fair to compare it to 'Mean Girls.' Although I like Lindsay Lohan, Mean Girls is intended for a different age group. My daughter is 10 and loved 'Freaky Friday', but I feel 'Mean Girls' has too much sexual content for that age. 'New York Minute' is aimed for the 'tween age' group. There aren't enough of these kinds of movies out.
Its either cartoon-like movies, which this age thinks are not cool enough for them, or right to sex and violence. The New York Minute is an in-between kind of movie that we need to fill the gap for this age group. The people who are saying 'this is so predictable' and 'we have already seen that kinda movie before' are not the target audience. Yes, we older ones have seen this plot many times before, but our kids have not. Even if we let them see the movies that are similar, they were based in the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, etc., so the trends and such will be harder for them to relate to. Mary Kate and Ashley have not surrendered to pressure to include sex and violence in their movies and I say good for them. This is a fun movie that the whole family can enjoy and get a lot of laughs.
If there were more movies like this, maybe our young wouldn't be so prone to grow up so fast, and actually still enjoy being with their families. This movie was great it had every thing action, romance, comedy. If you didn't like it then you suck. It had a good plot and moral and it was so good to finally see Mary-Kate and Ashley in a motion picture. I hope everyone goes to see it, it got some bad reviews and didn't do so good in the box office but I still think it was a great movie and I suggest everyone to go see it. The Olsens put on a watchable performance and there showing everyone that the are older and wiser and ready to take on anyone. Great acting, great story, great moral, and lots and lots of terrific fun.
New York Minute is I think the best movie the Olsens have put out yet. Its just a really fun movie. I am a projectionist so when I have free time I love to go in and watch it. It just gets better everytime I see it. If you have seen it and liked it go and see it again it really is better the 2nd time a round.
I cant wait to see what they are going to do next. I was not a Olsen fan before I saw this movie but after seeing it I went out and bought almost all of their movies. I really enjoy watching them I think they work well with each other they put out really fun movies that are great to watch no matter how old you are. Go see this movie its great. If you like the Olsens you will love this movie and if your not sure you may become a fan like I did.
I have always felt that the twins couldn't act their way out of a paper bag. It was bad enough that they had horrible made for video moving, but did they really have to torture us with a real movie and with real actors.
I can't believe Mr. Levy (the only reason I watched the movie) agreed to appear in it. I guess everyone makes mistakes. I have always felt that the twins couldn't act their way out of a paper bag. I guess everyone makes mistakes. I just loved this movie! Like Ashley Olsen said in an interview, 'it has something for everyone'! It is a movie which should appeal to everyone between the ages of 8 and 80! It has child-like fantasy aspects to it (with lots of special-effects included) and it has more adult overtones and undertones as well. They couldn't have made a better movie (IMHO).
If you love Ashley Olsen and Mary-Kate Olsen and their 'brand' of comedy you will absolutely love this movie! It has everything a great movie should have!
It has more adult 'themes' than their past movies but it was all very tastefully done. It contains nothing inappropriate for kids to see. You should see this movie at least once (or twice) because it is absolutely awesome! If you like Mary-Kate and Ashley's previous movies than I'm sure you'll enjoy this one as well. I gave it a 10/10 because it is what it is and shouldn't be judged for anything more.
The Olsen's produce family friendly movies which are enjoyable for what they are. I'm 22 and love their movies because they are fun and innocent. They don't run around in the film in cleavage/midriff bearing shirts or ultra-mini skirts, acting like complete bimbos in order for guys to think they're sexy, like most teenage actors do. In most movies of theirs, one plays a very upstanding, conservative person who dreams of academic achievement and the other is more wild and likes to enjoy life to its fullest. Why bother seeing it if you hate these kinds of movies? It makes no sense at all why most people who have voted or commented here at imdb even saw it in the first place (most I find didn't go at all).
Think about it. If all you read are sports magazines, why would you pick up a Harlequinn romance?
